Editor's note: This edition of Things Change is about all things edtech. Ravi Bhushan launched BrightChamps in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020. Earlier this week, his startup closed a $51 million funding round, in the process becoming one of the youngest edtech firms to reach a valuation of $500 million. With the latest fundraise—led by Wipro founder Azim Premji's investment office Premji Invest—BrightChamps has now raised $63 million in funding since its inception. BrightChamps calls itself a "global live-learning platform" for children aged between 6 and 16 to acquire "next-generation life skills such as programming, artificial intelligence, design thinking, financial literacy, social interaction and communication skills". It wants to make children the technology leaders, innovators, artists, entrepreneurs and scientists of tomorrow. They have started on their journey by teaching children how to code. Déjà vu? Hold that thought. Parents seem to have lapped up the idea. Except, they are not Indian parents.
