Editor's note: If you haven’t started growing your own food, this is probably the best time to do so. The cool November weather is conducive to growing the widest variety of vegetables in a kitchen garden. Make the most of it. The first step towards nutrition is knowing where the food comes from. Since we are talking about food and nutrition, I am surprised that India’s position on the Global Hunger Index 2021 created so much noise on either side of the debate over the last month. I don’t know what we expected, really. Interestingly, the debate also raised questions about the meaningfulness of the index itself. I am happy this conversation is happening because hunger is a massive problem in India. But you know what stands out about this entire episode? It was one of the rare occasions when conversation about agriculture actually touched upon our own relationship with—and interest in—food as consumers.
